The Beam Global Company is attempting to set a record on Wednesday for the longest solar-powered electric flight, and the journey began on Wednesday morning in Fresno at Chandler Executive Airport.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants all new car sales in the state to be zero-emission—which includes battery electric vehicles—by 2035. That is only 14 years away. Meeting the goal will require huge investments in charging infrastructure, as well as power-generation technologies.
Beam Global President and CEO Desmond Wheatley joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss the future of electric vehicle charging technology and the outlook for EV charging in Biden’s infrastructure deal.
OLATHE, KS (KCTV) — As electric vehicles hit the car market in droves, the Kansas City metro is quickly becoming a hub for drivers willing to make the switch. Some cities in the area are even offering incentives for them to dump the pump. Outside the Indian Creek Library branch in Olathe, the city’s newest charging station awaits those drivers. The EV ARC station is attached to two large solar panels, rotating with the sun.
As the City of Racine continues to invest in building its own fleet of electric-powered vehicles, members of the public who already own such vehicles can charge them, two at a time, using a solar-powered charger set up in the City Hall parking lot. “If you go to City Hall in an electric vehicle, you can plug in and use it,” said Shannon Powell, communications director for the city and chief of staff for Mayor Cory Mason.
The State of California has agreed to a deal with San Diego-based Beam Global (Nasdaq: BEEM) to install and operate 52 solar-powered charging stations. Ordered by the California Department of General Services (DGS), the project is a part of a $4 million investment to support energy resilience, disaster preparedness, and EV fleet sustainability at 12 state agencies.
Electric vehicles are an increasingly popular choice among drivers, although the recharging infrastructure to support these automobiles still presents logistical challenges for refreshes on the go. On Thursday, Beam Global, an electric vehicle charging technologies company, announced a California Department of General Services (DGS) order for more than 50 of the company’s solar-powered EV charging systems. The company said the deal could pave the way for an electric energy reserve similar to the petroleum stockpile amassed and stored by the U.S. government.
The state of California recently ordered 52 solar-powered EV chargers from San Diego-based Beam Global. The off-grid clean energy chargers will provide electricity in emergency situations and charge zero-emissions state fleets. They will be paired with energy storage systems in order to provide electricity during outages, at night, and when weather reduces solar production. Typically, we might expect solar power to be used only on the rooftops of homes or commercial buildings, but it has other applications.
When Jeep announced the Wrangler 4xe, the company said that
The EV ARC is designed to fit inside a 9×8 parking space and can park on top of the ballast pad so no parking area is wasted. It can fuel up to five vehicles at a time. Transportation continues to be the largest source of local emissions and the city has established several goals to shift vehicle fuels from gasoline to electricity and other alternatives. It also sets goals to increase the use of public transportation, biking, and walking as alternatives to driving.
The City of San Diego has launched a pilot program that will use solar power to charge the city’s electric vehicle fleet. “The EV ARC solar EV charging stations will allow the city to take advantage of San Diego’s most plentiful natural resource and reduce emissions from city operations that harm human health and contribute to the climate crisis,” said Mayor Todd Gloria.
As part of the City of San Diego’s climate action goal of halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, it has deployed two of Beam Global’s Electric Vehicle Autonomous Renewable Charger (EV ARC) solar-powered charging systems. Over the next six months, the pilot program will use solar power to charge the citie’s electric vehicle fleet and provide emergency preparedness assets. Mayor Todd Gloria revealed the news at a press conference on April 22 featuring 10 new Chevrolet Bolt EV fleet vehicles, one law enforcement Ford Interceptor Hybrid, and one fire department Ford Interceptor Hybrid, as well as the Beam Global charging systems.
