Beam Global announced that the EV ARC solar-powered EV charging system was used to charge Volvo Construction Equipment compact electric machines in a showcase hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The event took place at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Woodbridge, Virginia, and highlighted how zero-emissions trail building and maintenance is a possibility.
Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley via Forbes. We live during an era in which technologies that seemed like science fiction just a quarter of a century ago are now commonplace in our everyday lives. And yet the power that makes them all operate is still delivered by infrastructure that has been in existence for over 100 years with almost no fundamental improvement during that time. In my view, the utility grid is simply not able to reliably deliver the most essential commodity that human beings rely on today after water, air and food. As the CEO of a clean energy company and the holder of multiple renewable energy patents, I am deeply concerned about the consequences of our vulnerable grid.

The City of Goleta received and set up Santa Barbara County’s first EV ARC™ 2020 (EV ARC) for public electric vehicle charging, acting on its commitment to building a green and sustainable community. The EV ARC is a transportable, 100% off-grid solar-powered EV charger that can also serve as a mobile emergency preparedness and energy resiliency asset. The unit, now occupying a single standard parking space and being grid-independent, required no construction, trenching or electrical circuit work, allowing for fast deployment.
Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley joined R “Ray” Wang and Vala Afshar on DisrupTV to share his thoughts on the future of EV charging infrastructure and why completely renewable, off-grid systems are critical to that future. Be sure to catch the entire conversation.
When I was a young man out at sea, there was a chief engineer I worked for who was one of the first people to make me realize the answer to any question should always be ”yes, now let’s figure out how” instead of “no, now let’s figure out why.” I took that very seriously and it’s how I’ve led my life. I’ve spent my life saying yes and then figuring out how to make it happen.
One of the biggest challenges North American fleets face when considering converting to electric vehicles is the relative lack of charging infrastructure. The solution, at least for depot-based fleets with routes that run under 100 miles a day or so, is to install their own.
A solution for charging that needs no permits is BEAM’s EV ARC solar-powered EV charging system. The solar power is stored in a battery. The entire units can be rolled out in a few minutes and cover one parking space. The units are self-contained and do not require permits, grid connections or other costs. Plus, EV ARC power continues to work even when the grid fails and have an optional power outlet for emergencies.
It’s one of the most amazing things to consider, yet we often gloss over it: Countless years ago, humans learned how to make fire. Ever since then, we’ve been burning stuff for energy (for heat initially, and more recently for electricity and to propel vehicles forward). At long last, we are in an era where we can stop burning stuff. We can now create electricity by capturing sunlight and wind, and we can power our cars and trucks with that same electricity.
SAN DIEGO, California, United States–Beam Global, (Nasdaq: BEEM, BEEMW), announced that the Pipistrel Alpha Electro aircraft flew 227 nautical miles over Central California, thus setting the world record for the Longest flight in a production electric aircraft powered by renewable solar energy, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
There’s nothing like working aboard a ship at sea, thousands of miles from land and safety, to clarify you and your crewmate’s primary goal: staying alive and arriving at your destination port. Years at sea and working in other dangerous jobs as a young man cultivated the high degree of focus and singlemindedness that I bring to everything I do.
I recently went one on one with Desmond Wheatley. Desmond is the CEO, President and Chairman of Beam Global, a clean technology leader in sustainable charging infrastructure. Desmond led the successful uplisting to Nasdaq in April 2019, and previously founded, funded and operated four profitable start-up companies.
