Beam Global Hosts Live Streamed Tour of New Beam Europe Facility News Flash

This was the flight of the first solar-powered airplane in Fresno County

At the speed that technology advances and with the aim of reducing polluting emissions, in a couple of years, airplanes will probably only run on solar energy.

Reedley Airport made history by being the place chosen for the Beam Global company to demonstrate how an airplane can fly only with energy emanated from the sun.

The Beam Global company just carried out the first demonstration of a plane powered only with solar energy, and it did so in the Central Valley of California.

The maiden flight took place at Reedley Municipal Airport, Fresno County. The spacecraft was piloted by Joseph Oldham and powered by the EV ARC solar power charging unit.

According to the President and CEO of Beam Global, Desmond Wheatley, a trip of this aircraft has the capacity to fly up to 100 miles with cargo. He also said that the electrification of cars also reaches the skies.

Solar aircraft production promises to provide cleaner, less polluting transportation.

The Pipistrel electric planes are part of the Sustainable Aviation Project started by pilot Joseph Oldham in partnership with the cities of Reedley and Mendota. Funded by Measure C and executed by the Fresno County Transportation Authority (FCTA) New Technology Reserve Grant Program.

The maiden flight served as a test to further advance research into affordable and sustainable air transportation.

EV ARC units are 100% solar powered, plus they are off-grid, so they don’t require permits and don’t generate utility bills. It fits in a standard parking space, its creators say.
