“In America’s Finest City, we’re known for pushing the envelope on innovation, often taking the first step in implementing cleaner, greener technologies,” said San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer. “We’re excited about this collaboration with local manufacturer Beam Global to strengthen the City’s renewable energy options and encourage more people in other cities to do the same.”
BGE set a target to electrify 30 percent of its 1,300-vehicle fleet by 2025 on the way to its ultimate goal of 50 percent by 2030. As EV technologies continue to improve and quickly spread to new types of vehicles, BGE will expand its fleet to include sedans, SUVs, light-duty trucks, forklifts, excavators, and more.
The city has entered into a no-cost deal for 50 solar charging stations to be deployed next year. Because the units are not tied into the city’s electrical grid, they can be installed in as little as five minutes.
The City of San Diego is collaborating with Beam Global to deploy solar-powered charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) across the city. Beam Global will deploy its patented EV charging stations in both city-owned and business locations through a public-private partnership with a corporate sponsor, with the sponsorship paying for the renewable-powered charging, free for the public to use.

Clean-mobility company Beam Global has agreed to a deal with the city of San Diego to install and operate at least 50 solar-powered charging stations. The project will come at no expense to the city, nor to the drivers that will use the stations to fill up, said Beam Chief Executive Officer Desmond Wheatley.

Most of the EV charging grid we currently employ is exactly that, a grid. And one that unfortunately relies on the preexisting methods of supplying electricity. And just as Tesla introduces a charger that has a few issues of its own, other companies like Electrify America and Beam Global, are working together to go beyond traditional methods.
