The project description

City of Los Angeles is embracing a greener future by using the sun to power its electric vehicle (EV) fleet. In partnership with Beam Global, the city deployed EV ARC™ units across parks and public spaces—off-grid solar-powered EV chargers that are sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks manages an impressive 16,000 acres of parkland, including 450 parks throughout the city. As stewards of these green spaces, the department is deeply committed to sustainability and leading by example in environmental practices that benefit both the community and future generations.

To reduce its carbon footprint, the City has embraced smart irrigation systems to conserve water and is transitioning from gas-powered landscaping equipment to fully electric alternatives. Supporting this shift is a growing fleet of electric vehicles, now powered by Beam Global’s EV ARC™—a solar-powered, off-grid charging solution that delivers clean, renewable energy without the need for construction or grid connection

Solving the Challenge of Sustainable, Accessible EV Charging

Expanding electric vehicle infrastructure in urban environments presents significant challenges. Traditional EV chargers often require costly construction, trenching, and grid connections that can disrupt public spaces, particularly in parks and sensitive areas. These installations are timeconsuming, expensive, and sometimes impossible in locations where access to the electrical grid is limited or where preserving green space is a priority.

City of Los Angeles needed a solution that could deliver reliable, renewable EV charging without the environmental impact of conventional construction. Beam Global’s EV ARC™ provides exactly that—an off-grid, solar-powered charger that can be deployed quickly, with no construction required and no dependency on the power grid. It offers the city the flexibility to place chargers exactly where they’re needed, without compromise.

Power When It Matters Most

City of Los Angeles is not only investing in sustainability but also in resilience. The EV ARC™ units include onboard energy storage, ensuring that electric vehicles and essential equipment can remain powered even during emergencies and grid outages. This capability is especially valuable in a city vulnerable to natural disasters and power disruptions. The EV ARC™ provides dependable, solar-powered charging that supports daily operations and critical response when it matters most.

Leading the Charge for Future Generations

Rob Simanovich, a key leader at the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, has been instrumental in bringing solar-powered EV charging to the city’s parks. Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions that could be deployed without delay, Rob worked closely with Beam Global to quickly integrate EV ARC™ units into the department’s growing electric fleet operations.

Rob and his team prioritized fast, flexible installations to minimize impact on park visitors. With Beam’s deployment experts on site, the EV ARC™ units were delivered and set up without the need for construction or electrical work, keeping parks fully open and accessible throughout the process. The team’s shared goal was to make clean energy available where it’s needed most.

Today, Rob’s leadership is helping Los Angeles pave the way for a more resilient, sustainable future powered by the sun.
